First International Online Casino Summit Held In The UK 7 Dec 2006 The US online casino industry is probably going now through one of its most difficult times, but it seems that the situation in the rest of the world is pretty different. The first International Online Casino Summit took place just recently, with representatives from 33 countries participating in it. The summit, hosted by the United Kingdom, was held at the Ascot racecourse. UK's Culture Secretary, Ms Tessa Jowell, has been planning the event for some months now, with the clear purpose of achieving international understanding and a common working frame regarding online casinos, in order to keep the industry clean and safe for both gamblers and investors. During the weeks before the summit, the British government published some very interesting facts concerning the global online casino industry. According to the research, there are currently around 2,300 online casino sites worldwide, with Antigua leading the list with 500 and Costa Rica coming second with 474 sites. UK is the European leader concerning online gambling activities, with 1.1 million gamblers from the continent's total of 3.3 million. With an average of 1,900 dollars waged annually by each online casino gambler, the European online gambling industry is currently getting over 6.5 billion dollars a year. Not only that, but the number of gamblers has doubled in the last five years, and it doesn't seem like it is planning to stop. There's no doubt that summits, like the one that took place last week, will only help the online casino industry to continue its rise.
